Accelerated Alternate Delivery Program in Surgical Technology

Become a vital part of the operating room team

This Accredited Online program is available through Glendale Career College

Certification is an important step to maintain your career mobility and ensuring that you are not limited in your choice. To be a teacher in a CAAHEP accredited Surgical Technology program, you must be a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST). In many areas of the country, employers only hired Certified Surgical Technologists. As the profession and public awareness of the occupation of surgical technologist grows, it will become a necessary step for individuals to demonstrate their competency.

The Accelerated Alternate Delivery Program in Surgical Technology is designed to assist non-certified currently practicing surgical technologists to obtain the educational background they need to be eligible to sit for the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) certification examination to become a Certified Surgical Technologist.

Accelerated Alternate Delivery Program in Surgical Technology Course Activities

Surgical Technologists, also called operating room technicians, assist in surgical operations. They prepare operating rooms, arrange equipment, and help doctors during surgeries. Before an operation, Surgical Technologists prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment. They also prepare patients for surgery by washing and disinfecting incision sites, positioning the patients on the operating table, covering them with sterile drapes, and taking them to and from the operating room. Surgical Technologists prepare sterile solutions and medications used in surgery and check that all surgical equipment is working properly. In addition, they help the surgical team put on sterile gowns and gloves.

Surgical Technologists typically perform the following tasks:

  • Prepare operating rooms for surgery.
  • Sterilize equipment and make sure that there are adequate supplies for surgery.
  • Ready patients for surgery, such as by washing and disinfecting incision sites.
  • Help surgeons during surgery by passing them instruments and other sterile supplies.
  • Count supplies, such as sponges and instruments.
  • Maintain a sterile environment.
